Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long of a rail may be processed?
A: The only limit to length is the maximum diameter capacity of the machine and the butt size of the log.

Q: How short of a rail may be processed?
A: We recommend 5 foot as the shortest rail. If you need 3 foot dowels, run a 6 foot piece and cut it in half after doweling.

Q:Can the machine produce diameters other than those listed in the specifications?
A:Yes, custom bushings can be supplied .

Q:Can material be processed with bark on?
A:Yes, the RWS dowel mills are designed to run posts with bark on .

Q:How long will the knives last?
A:Conditions like dirt, rocks and material will affect knife life. We recommend changing the knifes 2 times daily for high production users .

Q:How much time is required to change knives?
A:15 minutes or less, we have seen customers do it in less than 10 minutes .

Q:How long will it take to setup the machine for a new diameter?
A:About 30 minutes.
